Charge Up Detroit Site

About This Site

Charge up Detroit’s  project site was chosen by residents who live on Clark, Scotten, Brandon and Toledo Streets. Speeding cars, traffic violence and living on a high injury network on a small intersection in Southwest Detroit was the inspiration for conversations with neighbors. Those conversations created the North Toledo Block Club. Neighbors bonded over common concerns like air quality and transportation, identified available vacant lots and imagined a solution.

2024 Wins

In 2024, the North Toledo Block Club held 14 meetings to purchase, plan, celebrate, and activate these vacant lots. In the fall of 2024, we broke ground on our first rain garden wiith over 20 block club members volunteering their time, alongside 10 volunteers from Friends of the Rouge Rain Gardens to the Rescue program.
